Everything at west~bourne grows from our roots in Los Angeles, where it all began and an ode to the state where two thirds of our nation's produce is still grown. Our name was inspired by an old 1960s apartment building on Westbourne Drive, where I used to live and walk by every morning. It evokes the raw, unfiltered promise of this is fertile, bountiful land that calls stewards towards nature and all that it can provide.
This holiday season we conjure this era and epicenter of creativity. this place was built, brick by brick, by creators and creatives, harnessing the pioneering spirit of what it has always meant to go west. open with opportunity for anyone who dares. Our daily practice at west~bourne to live regeneratively starts with a single step, and then another. every day a fresh chance to make a choice, to start anew with intention and a brilliant, free spirit. and that's how this season's artist edition hand blown decanter and field press started.
At the beginning of this year, I was musing with my dear friends Jon Kleinhample and Maša Lončarič Kleinhample from the cult beloved local design firm Klein Agency in their studio about holiday traditions. We grounded in the power of an object to hold soul and nature, a totem if you will. all that they carry, and how they transform routine into ritual. What object we would want on our holiday tables. They've only recently dipped their toes into working with glass, a medium they've long been fascinated by in their discipline. so we asked together, what if? Which led us to another craftsman, Cedric Mitchell, who's been hand blowing glass preserving a lost ancient art here in our backyard. months and dozens of iterations later, "The Brick" was born. Each one made by a passionate collective, a unique artist edition. as we clasped the early versions in our hands, making adjustments to the upcycled wood molds from local fallen trees, we knew it beckoned to be paired with a one of a kind oil, grown and pressed here in the same terroir. A field press avocado oil as a singular limited edition batch worthy of this sanctuary vessel. this collaboration found us, as most often is the case when we quiet to listen as the universe speaks.
