In Honor of Pride Month ~ Love is Love

V~Into: June 2023

In honor of Pride, a monthlong celebration across the country and around the world, we’re celebrating the togetherness of it all and living loudly, proudly, and with love. From parading and summer sipping, to expanding our hearts and minds, we’re sharing these nine bites, sips, reads, must-sees and haves, because one thing’s for sure: love is love.

Freshly Baked: Mulberry Frangipane Tart

Ready for harvest between June and August, tart mulberries are the perfectly-tart addition to our House Pie Crust Mix base. Add a little almond flour and cardamom to the mix, bake, and top with fresh mulberries, sheep’s milk yogurt (we love Bellwether Farm’s), and a drizzle of Extra Virgin Avocado Oil for a dessert that dazzles.

Full recipe here, and if you can’t find mulberries near you, feel free to swap your favorite summer fruit for the topping.

Summer Essential: 100% Pure Avocado Oil

Whether your ideal summer day is spent grilling, baking or sipping by the pool, our 100% Pure Avocado Oil is here to make sunny day gatherings a breeze. Drizzle on the grill for perfectly charred veggies, add it to our House Pie Crust Mix for a summer fruit galette, or shake it with gin for a refreshing avocado oil martini.

One Love: The Living Fridge

Last month, Chef Tara Thomas worked with One Love Community Fridge to create this magical, modular fridge concept atop a Brooklyn rooftop. A labor of love, reflective of her own passion to “transform urban systems into to living systems of peace,” Chef Tara hopes to soon recreate this living system of resilient vegetation of native plants and herbs in more spaces and places.

Drink IntentionallyZafa Natural Wines

Striving to level out the wine industry’s playing field, Krista Scruggs founded Zafa Wines after becoming the 18th Black, land-owning farmer in Vermont. At Zafa, Krista provides opportunity and equity to people from marginalized identities, such as POC, women, LGBTQ+individuals, and other underrepresented communities. Together they have been able to reframed the conversation around sustainability in wine. Always using regenerative farming practices, native fermentation processes with grapes and other fruits, and maintaining a 0/0 ethos.

Must-Watch: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (2022)

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is a poignant and epic documentary that delves into the life of Nan Goldin, a renowned photographer, artist, and activist. It highlights her efforts to hold Purdue Pharma, owned by the Sackler family, responsible for the opioid epidemic. The film captures the raw and intimate essence of Goldin's work which has always respected her subjects—particularly marginalized people including LGBTQ+ communities. Rather than exploiting them, her aim has been to shed light on these marginalized communities, a goal that this documentary effectively embraces.

Page-Turner: "All the Things We Don’t Talk About" by Amy Feltman

“All the Things We Don’t Talk About” is a powerful read that intertwines betrayal, trauma, and the lasting strength of queer love. Through the lens of a modern family, it bravely explores the unspoken issues that shape our lives. This captivating story celebrates resilience while shedding light on the unintended pain that comes with the complexities of being.
