V~Into October 2026: Beginning before you’re ready
October is for beginning before you feel ready, and this month’s edit is full of people who did: a comeback, a hotel built in the trees, a tart worth turning the oven on for. and a few other delicious things too.

Eat: persimmons. fuyu while they’re still firm, sliced like an apple with a drizzle of avocado oil and flaky salt. hachiya once they’ve gone soft and jammy, eaten with a spoon. i love that october is their re-entry to ripness—the orange is perfectly fitting.

Visit:the treehotel in harads, in swedish lapland. the rooms are built into the pines, with the mirrorcube covered in reflective glass so it nearly disappears into the forest. it’s a hotel designed around the trees it sits in, and i’m desperate to stay in their Biosphere.
Watch: fjord. cristian mungiu’s palme d’or winner follows a romanian-norwegian couple who moves to a remote village in norway, and the neighbors’ view of how they raise their children starts to define them. i cannot stop thinking about this one (or the breathtaking backdrop).

Listen:Parra for Cuva. i can’t get enough of his sound, so it’s pretty much the backdrop of everything i do these days.

Read: lindsay vonn, profiled in cultured. her talent is one thing, but her resilience and determination to get back up after a career-altering crash is another.

See:Champ, 2016 on view at the Rose Art Museum. Zoe Buckman’s work in neon sends a very necessary message in this time of deep feminine rage.

Make:a honey pecan tartwith extra thick honey from our friends at Honey Dept. Think of it as testing out new material for next month’s big event. Maybe you’ll find the dessert that becomes an instant family tradition.

Wear:upcycled pants that double as a wearable piece of art. Kellie Swanson uses cyanotype to create uniquely designed pieces made from pre-loved clothing. This could also double as an art project, if you feel so inclined…
